Cosmetic Treatments, the Fun Stuff!

As mentioned dermatologist can save your life by detecting skin cancers, but they can also make you feel better about your skin too! Cosmetic treatments are neurotoxins, fillers, microneedling, laser treatments, peels and so much more! Making sure that you skin is health is first and foremost, then we can make sure our skin feels and looks beautiful too! If you have sun damage, wrinkles, dark spots, acne scars, large pores or poor skin texture, these are treatments that would be beneficial. These treatments can be very personal to some, and others are willing to tell you all about their experience and outcome. I'm a person who will gladly tell you about any treatment I've had and how beneficial it was.

Neurotoxins are great, temporary treatment of fine lines and wrinkles on your face. Different types of neurotoxins available are Botox (most common), Daxxify, Dysport and Xeomin. This is a noninvasive procedure where a neurotoxin in injected usually in the forehead, temple and glabella area of the face to temporarily block nerve signals, "freezing" these areas. If it can't move or move as much, there will be softened wrinkles and lines. The treatment typically lasts about 3-6 months. Fillers which typically consist of hyaluronic acid are also temporary but last longer, between 9 months to one year. Fillers can be used to plump lips, improve scars and sagging skin and facial contouring. Chemical peels resurface the skin by reducing pore size, improving texture and reducing dark spots.

After treatments, I feel like my skin sparkles... if you listen, you can hear it too!

Also available at your dermatologist are weight loss injections, often compounded and not covered by insurance. There are two weight loss injections, Semaglutide and Tirzepatide. Both medications improve blood sugar control, reduce appetite, slow digestion and supports significant weight loss but do it a little differently. Semaglutide is a GLP-1, and this blocks one receptor and Tirzepatide is a GLP-1/GIP blocking two receptors. Having managed a dermatology office previously, my experience with these medications were that there were less side effects with Tirzepatide, and weight loss happened quicker. Semaglutide is also a great medication but side effects were more common and weight loss did not happen as quickly. Both medications have great health benefits outside of weight loss, such as reduced risk of heart attack or stroke. Personally, I lost approximately 40lbs while my dermatologist oversaw my Tirzepatide treatment.
